Recently I started noticing on tartes packaging that it is ‘made in china’. Does this mean that the package alone is made there? Or the actual product as well?

She means specifically tarte products and their ingredients aren’t tested on by those people (parent company, etc), so that you can be sure when you buy their products, not only is tarte not conducting animal testing on them or what’s in them, but they aren’t having anyone else do that for them. I can’t think of a way to say it more clearly and briefly than she did, but I’m really glad you asked though, cause that’s an important clarification and I can see how that could be confusing.

Sadly, they do still test on animals when required by law. 🙁 Since this is done through a hired 3rd party, they are able to say that they themselves do not test on animals.

????????????????????????????????????????????

At Kose, we are promoting the development of cosmetics (including quasi-drugs) with a policy not to conduct animal experiments.

Japanese websites say that Kose discontinued animal testing as of October, 2014.

If we support some so called vegan products (smoke and mirrors show I’m sure), we are still supporting the entire company.

They also don’t specify what type of glycerin they are using. Not worth the risk!

I have the same feeling and it still makes me confused. Exact sentences appear in a post about Too Faced.

It still reads like their parent company doesn’t test, but your response here clarifies it. Thanks.

I was hoping they were no longer owned by KOSE so I could buy from them again. Alas. Thanks for responding.

Ugh! I’ve emailed them myself and had no luck either.

In the first sentence, by saying “on their products” it is meant that this testing is not happening on Tarte products. I’ve updated the post to clarify that a bit.

I used to struggle with buying from companies whose parent companies aren’t cruelty-free. Now I regularly check on their status. I kind of look at it this way, I hope that maintaining their cruelty-free status, that this would convince the parent company to become cruelty-free, my fear is if people stop supporting these Cruelty-free companies, it would just give the parent company no incentive to become cruelty-free.

Take care and have a great week 🙂

So they are owned by a company that tests on animals but somehow there is no animal testing occurring with their parent company? That doesn’t make any sense. Those two sentences directly contradict each other. That they are owned by a company that tests on animals means their parent company tests on animals. You need to clarify.

I was in ulta yesterday and saw that mario badescu has added “cruelty free” to it’s packaging. I know they’ve been on your gray lists before, have they still never responded to your inquiries? Thanks!

It’s the first cruelty free beauty brand I discovered when looking for vegan makeup a while ago. I have discovered many more cruelty free brands since then and there are a lot to choose from.
