I haven’t tried their primer, so I’m not exactly sure of what could be an identical dupe. That said, these are some great hydrating primers that I have used – Cover FX Calming Primer, Too Faced Hangover Primer, Hourglass Priming Viel, BECCA Backlight Primer, Pacifica Rose Gold Primer and the Pacifica Jasmine Iris Primer. I hope one of these will work for you!

I have, but I don’t think it changes anything with Laura Mercier. They have had that stance on testing for well over a year now.

When they first started to say that these statements were removed from their package, I asked if this meant that their stance on required by law testing had changed. They told me that it had not, and they do still test when required by law, but had just removed the statement from their packaging. 🙁 I’ve talked to them as recently as a month or so ago and was told the same thing. I’ll have to update the post on LH about this.

I wish I had better news and could say that they are cruelty-free. But I simply don’t trust that they are.

Have you seen this blog post from Cruelty Free Kitty? Laura Mercier said that they did not go to China at all. What do you think about this?

I love your blog and I trust your cruelty free list more than any other one 🙂

This is so unfortunate. I am a vegan and have been a long-time user of Laura Mercier hydrating foundation primer. I have dry skin, so it keeps it from flaking while also keeping my makeup on! Some makeup for dry skin is too oily and so the makeup melts off throughout the day. Can you recommend a vegan cruelty-free alternative? Thanks!!

Hi Meg!

I have been told several times by Laura Mercier that they do test when required by law. This isn’t listed in their FAQ, but is a consistent response myself and others have received for a long time.

17. Does Laura Mercier Cosmetics test on animals?

We do not, nor have we ever, tested our products on animals. We also do not contract outside companies to test on animals for us.

I contacted Laura Mercier customer support through email recently and asked them to clarify their statement about “required” testing. I asked them, “Does this statement mean that you currently allow your products to be tested on animals in certain places?”, and they just answered “no”. I’m not sure if I phrased the question in a way that allowed them to honestly say “no”, so I’m a bit confused!

Thank you so much for being a great resource 🙂

How sad!

Do you have any personal insight as to why once vegan brands make the switch?

I was actually planning on buying a couple of raved products from them, but thanks for the heads up. I’m definitely removing Laura Mercier on my personal list of cruelty-free cosmetics.

I won’t be recommending them anymore nor will I buy from them again obviously!
