Many Coola products listed here include plankton extract amongst the ingredients – have you confirmed that they are using phytoplankton (plants) and not zooplankton (animals)? Thanks!

Seeing familiar products in the list made me very happy 🙂 As a vegetarian (only purchasing CF makeup and household products) who is slowly switching onto a vegan routine it’s always a huge relief to find out that a product I use and love can stay on my bathroom shelf 🙂

I have very problematic skin (acne-and black/whitehead-prone, and very oily) which I have successfully managed to regulate via using AHA and BHA, but for that I need to use sunscreen on a daily basis. I do not mind this, because in return the condition of my skin has improved significantly. However, my problematic skin combined with that I refuse to even check non-CF options limits my buying options considerably. And of course, even if a product fits all the above criteria, it might still not work for me.
COOLA’s Mineral Face SPF 30 Matte Cucumber is one of the main pillars in my daily facial skincare routine. It does not cause breakouts or clog my pores at all, it keeps my face matte throughout the day (I’ve only ever found 3 products that are capable of this. Well, rather 2.5) and it offers sufficient sun protection. It is not 100% perfect, but mixed together with another SPF face cream (also SPF30, also physical, but tinted) they create the prefect pair. I’m happy to be able to keep it in my daily routine 🙂
Besides this, I’ve also tried the COOLA Mineral Face Unscented Matte Tint SPF 30. It was less effective (it’s the 0.5 I mentioned above 😀 it does not keep my face matte for as long as the Cucumber version does, and it also has a longer drying time which is not as effective for days with limited time available for getting ready, e.g. working days), but it’s still a really good facial sunscreen – and it matches my skin tone pretty well! I have a skin tone that is rather yellowish than pinkish, and I don’t think I’ve ever found any tinted facial products that were an as good match to my skin tone as this is.

They actually told me that it’s not vegan. :-/ I’ll check in again and see what I hear back.

The setting spray has ingredients that may or may not be from animals. I was told by COOLA that it’s not vegan, but I wasn’t told why. :-/

What about the products by Bare Republic? I spotted them at Target and I think they are owned or distributed by COOLA. Here is a link to a product I was thinking of purchasing: http://www.target.com/p/bare-republic-mineral-face-sunscreen-lotion-spf-30-1-7oz/-/A-16576945

I assume since COOLA is cruelty-free, this Bare Republic line is cruelty-free too?

Thanks 🙂

One question though: I’m assuming the lip balm has beeswax in it, but I can’t see any non-vegan ingredients in their setting spray? I would love a setting spray with SPF in it!

They also told me that their Face SPF 30 Makeup Setting Spray is vegan-friendly. Their email response: “As for the Makeup Setting Spray, the ingredients are in-line with our other Vegan Friendly products, I must have missed it in my lineup-thank you for catching that!”
