They were owned by L’Oreal for a bit, but are now owned by Natura. I haven’t been able to confirm that Natura is cruelty-free for sure.

Hi Tasha! Thank you so much for your work!
Help. I recall reading up on The Body Shop and finding they were sorta pioneers in being cruelty free. Am I right? And also I saw in another trail an argument over who owns them and if they test??? I’d be devastated if they are owned by the bad guys.

They have told myself and others that they do test on animals as required by law unfortunately. 🙁

Each product says cruelty-free on the label but apparently, they are not cruelty-free? Can you explain?

Hi Noura! They are selling through online stores in China, but not in physical stores. Since the products are shipped directly to consumers, they are able to avoid any animal testing.

Hi Donna,

Burt’s Bees does not test on animals and they are cruelty-free. Is there a specific area of their stance on animal testing that you have heard otherwise about? Maybe I can help to clarify.

Please do more research before you guess and put things in print.

I haven’t been able to confirm if their new parent company is cruelty-free or not, so I don’t think it would be fair to say that they are not cruelty-free.

That is true, but the company that owns them now isn’t cruelty-free, is it? So the parent company note should still be included!

Hi Lex,

The Body Shop is no longer owned by L’Oreal thankfully!

Try Tom’s for toothpaste and deodorant (their parent co is NOT cruelty free though), and I’ve found HASK is a great affordable hair care line 🙂 Also Yes To is a great brand for any face products
