Cruelty-Free Perfume Brands at Sephora:
- 7 Virtues, The – 100% vegan
- Floral Street – 100% vegan
- KVD Beauty – 100% vegan
- Skylar – 100% vegan

Brands that are NOT Cruelty-Free at Sephora:
Sephora does carry a lot of cruelty-free brands. For those who shop there, I think that it is important for them to know which brands are the best to support. Unfortunately, the house line of cosmetics sold at Sephora is not cruelty-free. Sephora does have stores in China, where animal testing is required by law. Their house brand is sold in these stores.
I know that because of this, some people want to avoid shopping at Sephora altogether. For those who decide to not purchase items from Sephora, you can always go into the store to look at the cruelty-free brands and cruelty-free products in person, take home samples, and then order online directly from the brand itself or from Ulta.
Sadly, the list of brands that are not cruelty-free at Sephora is long. This is not a full list of the brands that are NOT cruelty-free at Sephora. It’s just ones that I get asked about a lot. Or brands that people tend to think are cruelty-free but actually are not. Go to the brands that are not cruelty-free list to view other brands that test on animals.
If you are looking to purchase only cruelty-free brands at Sephora, you should avoid the following brands:
- Benefit Cosmetics
- Bobbi Brown
- Caudalie
- Chanel
- Clarins
- Clinique
- Dior
- Estee Lauder
- Glamglow
- Gucci
- Kiehl’s
- L’Occitane
- La Mer
- Laura Mercier
- Makeup Forever
- Marc Jacobs Fragrances
- NARS
- Origins
- Sephora Collection

Shouldn’t Smashbox be on this list?
Sorry, I just found the details. 🙁 Boo 🙁
This site has my heart. I love that you point out who Sephora’s parent company is and how it’s much more helpful to use them only as a sampling point. You’re my go to for everything vegan/vegan beauty. Do not stop being awesome!
Thank you so much, Kelsie! Your support means a lot to me!
sunday riley has vegan stuff too! albeit exspensive
Hi Ileah,
Thanks for suggesting them! We have reached out to them and they will be added to the Pending Brands list. They will be included in future weekly update posts about the brands list. These updates are posted every Sunday. 🙂 Have a great day!
There are a few brands not on your list that I am curious about:
– Dr. Dennis Gross claims to be both cruelty free and vegan, they even have the vegan stamp on their packaging
– Ren is one of the “natural” brands, and the rep told me that they are cruelty free, and that only two of their products have any animal ingredients (yogurt and honey)
– Murad says on their packaing “tested on people, not animals” and on their website specifically states that they do not sell in china for this reason
– The rep from Origins told me they do not animal test, and the boxes state no animal ingredients.
– Amore Pacific also told me they don’t animal test.
I would love to know if you’ve either confirmed any of this, or learned anything that says otherwise. Thanks!
Correction regarding Murad – it wasn’t their website where I saw that statement, it was an email from the company on another blog.
Hi Vanessa,
Dr. Dennis Gross, Amore Pacific, and Murad are currently on the Pending Brands list. I have yet to receive a response from any of those brands, but hopefully I will soon. Ren is currently on the Grey Area list. Origins, sadly, does test on animals when required by law. 🙁 Sorry that I cannot be of more help! Without getting the correct documentation from these brands, I just cannot say if they are cruelty free or not.
http://www.peta.org/living/beauty/jack-black/ Jack Black is also sold at Sephora and is cruelty free.
Thanks for suggesting them, Beth! Jack Black is listed as cruelty free on the main brands list, but I wasn’t aware they were sold at Sephora. I’m adding them to this list now!
what about OCC??
They are included in this list. 🙂 They are a great company. I love their products!
Bummer about Sephora! I did not know that they started selling in China, OR that they are owned by Louis Vuitton! (ahhhh, no!). I will stick to what I know works well for me, and is 100% cruelty-free and all natural for cosmetics – Alima Pure and 100% Pure (I highly recommend these brands)!
Hi, i recently found this website and i’ve decided to get only vegan products. I love makeup, i’m actually running out of some products, but some of the cruelty free ones are kinda pricey -i’m not ready to spend $40 dls on a foundation- so i saw that Sephora collection products were in good price. I sent an email earlier today to the company and they told me they’re cruelty free. DId they just lie to me? I don’t think that’s ethic. Hope you can help, thank you (:
Hi Madeline,
Because there is no regulation on the term cruelty free, the brand technically did not lie. However, the Sephora collection line is sold in China. In China it is required by law that brands agree to animal testing. While Sephora themselves may not be doing the testing, they have agreed to allow the testing to occur and to pay for the testing. I hope that this helps to clarify.
Oh, that’s why they told me that their products “have never been tested in animals”; they’re right, but then they’re fine with having them tested in furry creatures ): not cool. I need a new foundation, but i find UD and Nars too pricey, has anyone tried a good and cheaper one? I’m traveling to the US next month and i’ll make a trip to Sephora to get one. Thank you!
Madeline I know this is months later but I thought I’d reply to you anyway. I find Sonia Kashuk and Physicians Formula foundations to be very good. It all depends on your skin type but I hope this helps.
Wet n’ Wild is super cheap and is caring consumer certified.
Thanks for the great list, Tashina! Just wondering- is this an exhaustive list, in that any other brand not on this list that is sold at Sephora isn’t cruelty free? Because I’ve had contact with TokyoMilk and NEST Fragrances that have led me to believe they are cruelty-free. Also, I’m pretty sure that Zoya and China Glaze (sold at Ulta) are cruelty-free, but they aren’t on the Ulta list.
Hi Hanusia,
This list includes only brands that have been verified as cruelty free by Logical Harmony. We have reached out to TokyoMilk and NEST – hopefully we will hear from them soon! 🙂 Zoya has been added to the list of brands sold at Ulta. We have still not yet received a response from China Glaze though. For a more detailed list of brands, be sure to check out the complete Cruelty Free & Vegan Brand List.
i thought Murad was cruelty free. it’s not?
Hi Jessica,
Murad is currently on the Pending Brands list. This means that I have reached out to them with my specific set of questions, but have yet to hear back from them. Please check back in the future to see what list they are on. This will depend on how fast I hear back from them.
