Cruelty-Free Brands at Sephora

This list of cruelty-free brands at Sephora will help make shopping easier for you!

Finding cruelty-free brands at Sephora is a struggle for many. For many, big stores like Sephora are one of the main places where they purchase cosmetics, skincare, and hair care. It’s easy to have one store where you can take care of so much shopping. What about cruelty-free brands or vegan options at Sephora? This can be tough.

Being aware of the cruelty-free brands at Sephora can be a challenge. Sephora carries so many brands and it can be a little overwhelming to figure out which are cruelty-free and which are not. There are simply SO many to choose from. Thankfully, this guide will make it easy for you to pick the best options for you.

If you’re looking for cruelty-free makeup, you can use this guide to shop online, download the list of cruelty-free brands at Sephora to your phone, or even print the list of cruelty-free brands at Sephora to take with you into the store.

Cruelty-Free Brands at Sephora:

All of the brands listed here are cruelty-free and are also sold at Sephora. They are free of any animal testing and all of them have vegan options. Where possible, I’ve linked vegan product lists for specific cruelty-free brands.

Just like on the main Cruelty-Free Brand List, I wanted to give you some helpful notations.

If a brand is 100% vegan. That is noted next to the brand name with (V). It is also noted if the brand is cruelty-free, but their parent company is not. That is noted next to the brand name with (PC).

Brands that are NOT Cruelty-Free at Sephora:

Sephora does carry a lot of cruelty-free brands. For those who shop there, I think that it is important for them to know which brands are the best to support. Unfortunately, the house line of cosmetics sold at Sephora is not cruelty-free. Sephora does have stores in China, where animal testing is required by law. Their house brand is sold in these stores.

I know that because of this, some people want to avoid shopping at Sephora altogether. For those who decide to not purchase items from Sephora, you can always go into the store to look at the cruelty-free brands and cruelty-free products in person, take home samples, and then order online directly from the brand itself or from Ulta.

Sadly, the list of brands that are not cruelty-free at Sephora is long. This is not a full list of the brands that are NOT cruelty-free at Sephora. It’s just ones that I get asked about a lot. Or brands that people tend to think are cruelty-free but actually are not. Go to the brands that are not cruelty-free list to view other brands that test on animals.

If you are looking to purchase only cruelty-free brands at Sephora, you should avoid the following brands:

  • Benefit Cosmetics
  • Bobbi Brown
  • Caudalie
  • Chanel
  • Clarins
  • Clinique
  • Dior
  • Estee Lauder
  • Glamglow
  • Gucci
  • Kiehl’s
  • L’Occitane
  • La Mer
  • Laura Mercier
  • Makeup Forever
  • Marc Jacobs Fragrances
  • NARS
  • Origins
  • Sephora Collection

  1. Im pretty certain Bite Beauty is also a cruelty free brand!

Thank you so much for your site, really has been helping me! I recently decided to make the switch to Cruelty Free only, and your site has been a huge help for me!

  2. Hi Tashina!
I believe that 100% pure is also owned by LVMH. Is this true? 🙁
Thank you so much for all you do to promote cruelty free and vegan lifestyle:-)

  3. Hi, thank you for this list. I am in the process of switching my products to cruelty free now and need this list. I did find one company that is not on the list, Toulon. Please let me know if this correct. thank you.
They state that are not tested on animals.

  4. I love shopping at sephora since we don’t have much store options to get cosmetics in Hawaii except department stores. This list is soooo helpful 🙂

  5. I’m so glad I found this list! There are so many products at Sephora its overwhelming to try and sort out all the vegan and cruelty free brands. And whenever I go many of the associates do not know which products are vegan and cruelty free and thus try to get me to buy products that are not either. The thank you so much for making my make up buys all that much easier!!

  6. While Hourglass and Urban Decay have a FEW and yes I said few (only maybe a handful of their products are actually vegan AND cruelty free) the rest are completely not, within the two brands. It is very unfortunate. Even if it claims it is vegan it does not also mean that they were not tested on animals! Please do lots of research! Typically smaller more independent brands have safer ingredients and are also vegan AND cruelty free but they will not be in such broad corporate stores like Sephora, Ulta, department stores, etc.

    1. Exactly. Stating a product is vegan doesn’t mean the brand is cruelty free. This is why I do such extensive research into brands and require documentation in order to verify their cruelty free status. 🙂

      1. I’m confused…what products are okay to use then from Hourglass & UD? And, if the brand is not 100% cruelty free does it move to the avoid list?
        thank you!

        1. Hi Kathryn,

Hourglass is cruelty free with vegan options. So is Urban Decay, but they are owned by a parent company who does test on animals. If a brand takes part in any animal testing they are added to the Brands to Avoid list. I would not promote a brand as cruelty free if they were testing on animals in any way. 🙂 The products seem on Logical Harmony are all from cruelty free brands and the products are also free of animal ingredients.
